Getting to Love: Reclaim the Self After a Sexually Traumatic Event – with Edy Nathan

May 15 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

The sexual self is something we are born with; it’s the way we exist in the world. The primal sexual self impacts the development of our emotions and our ability to think clearly. People want to get out of dysregulated states and feel more functional when their worlds are not functional any more – our working lives and relationships seem to fall apart as we walk around with this grief. If sexual grief is keeping you captive, it’s time to break free.

Sexual violence impacts millions of people in the United States and the world each year. According to the CDC, over half of US women and almost 1 in 3 men have experienced sexual violence involving physical contact during their lifetimes. One in 4 women and about 1 in 26 men have experienced completed or attempted rape. The statistics showing the number of people who have been impacted by sexual trauma are staggering, and due to underreporting the numbers leave part of the story untold.

Despite the fact that so many people have had to endure these horrendous acts, it is still considered taboo in many parts of our society to talk about sex and our sexual experiences, both good and tragic. It is time to start overcoming the barriers that keep so many of us silent.

If you or your clients have experienced a sexually traumatic event, you know that it often leaves people feeling trapped, voiceless, and silenced. Edy Nathan is here to tell you that you are not alone, and you can reclaim your Self.

For decades, Edy has been working with individuals from diverse backgrounds who have endured various forms of sexual wounding and continue to grapple with the profound grief it entails. These experiences have profoundly impacted their ability to lead fulfilling lives. Their trajectories were altered by a range of traumatic events, including sexual abuse, ridicule following initial sexual encounters, feelings of being unwanted since birth, the challenges of aging, and coping with disabilities. This underscores the reality that sexual trauma can manifest in myriad ways and affect individuals from all walks of life.
